INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PLACENTA ASSOCIATIONS

Scope and Topics

Placenta – The Key to Pregnancy Success

It is increasingly clear that the placenta is pivotal to pregnancy success in women, agricultural species and all other viviparous species. Poor placental trophoblast invasion and impaired placental function are implicated in a continuum of human pregnancy complications. In agricultural species poor placental efficiency reduces birth weight and survival. This meeting will highlight cutting edge placental research from around the world.

This 2009 Meeting of the International Federation of Placenta Associations will consist of:

  • Special Presentations
  • Keynote lecture
  • IFPA Award Lecture
  • Trophoblast Research Award Lecture
  • Four plenary sessions with sixteen speakers
  • Twelve workshops in four sessions
  • New Investigator Session
  • Two attended poster sessions
  • Social events

Topics include:

  • Pre-implantation perturbations and placenta
  • Immune response to pregnancy
  • Molecular regulation of trophoblast invasion
  • Role of placenta in fetal programming
  • Signaling between fetus and placenta
  • Prediction of pregnancy complications
  • Epigenetics and genetics in placental function
  • Placenta in production animals
